His funeral was held on Tuesday morning. Revs. LB Everitt conducted the services at the house, assisted by Revs. R. L. Clark and Van Dyke. The pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased. Interment in Centre cemetery. He is survived by his wife and ten children - John Richard, Rachel Elizabeth, Robert Beyer, William Alexander, Henry Clay, Mrs. Sylvania MARSTELLER, Mrs. Henrietta Rebecca ALLEN, Mrs. Margaret Vivian NEAL, Mrs. Ella May MELOY and Daniel Ellsworth. Two children - Wm. James and Mary are dead, making in all twelve children. Mr. McELWAIN was born in Lancaster county January 30, 1828, the son of John and Rebecca McELWAIN. There he received his early education and taught school. He afterwards moved to this county and taught at Gordon's school and other places. He married Rebecca WEBB, and has lived in Fawn township for the last 53. For many years he was a surveyor and prominent farmer. He took great interest in public affairs, and for some years was a school director. He was also a director in the First National Bank, of Stewartstown, at the time of his death. His zeal in business affairs did not eclipse his desire to serve his Master. He was a active member of Centre Presbyterian church, where he had served as trustee and superintendent of the Sabbath school, until being afflicted with paralysis about a year ago, he remained a teacher in the Sabbath school. He was a man of marked intelligence and energy, and will be much missed by the whole community. Years ago he had a wide reputation as mathematician. Her funeral was one of the largest ever held in the lower end of York county. ---------- "KENNARDS DALE" John S. McELWAIN, late of Fawn township, in his will probated on Monday by Register of Wills C. T. Grove, gives "Kennards Dale" to his son, Daniel, upon payment of $5000 to the other heirs. In the home a bedroom and a sitting room are set apart to the widow. The residue of the estate is left to the other children. John K. and Robert McELWIAN are named as executors.
