June 25, 1902. THE MURDERED MAN Jacob C. Schmidt Had Lived in Lebanon for Some Years and Bore a Good Name Jacob C. Schmidt, the murdered man, was born in 1875, in Wurtemberg, Germany. At the age of 12 his family emigrated to America. The family broke up, the boy coming to Lebanon to live after the death of his mother and sister. The boy was strong and maintained himself by labor. He lived for some time at the Brightbill home, 1221 Church street, and until that family regarded him as a member of the family. About five years ago he worked in the iron mills at Pencoyd and Manayunk, and there worked with his father. Later the elder Schmidt sailed from Philadelphia to Germany, and the youth returned to Lebanon. He had been working, off and on, at the Colebrook Furnaces. He was steady, well-liked and attended the Memorial U. B. Church. In appearance he was a typical German, with blond hair, intelligent face and light moustache. He was about five feet seven inches in height and of medium heavy build.
