The farm belonged to the Coover family, however, by 1910 when Zeamer transcribed the cemetery, it was known as the George T. Hummel Farm. In the early 1950's, John Henry Cocklin began searching the cemeteries of Cumberland County for the tombstones of his deceased family members. The Cocklin family has been in Cumberland County since the 1700's, and John found that his family members were buried in many of the county cemeteries. In an effort to manage the amount of information contained in each cemetery, John transcribed the data from the tombstones. His interest in his own family grew into an interest in local history and the history of all the families in the Eastern half of Cumberland County. He not only transcribed the information from the tombstones, but also added genealogical information and additional dates from newspaper articles and other sources. This is his transcription, which has been compiled by members of the West Shore YMCA Genealogy Club. ************************************************************************ Last Name First Name DOB DOD Additional Notes BAKER Christianna 10 Oct 1818 28 Feb 1849 BOSLAR Susannah 5 Jul 1796 7 Oct 1821 D/o Martin & Salome Keller BUSER John 8 Jan 1787 5 Apr 1854 COOVER Amos 18 Jan 1823 19 Aug 1823 S/o John & Salome Coover COOVER John 22 Feb 1787 12 May 1862 HENAMAN Ann 25 Apr 1818 25 Sep 1862 HENAMAN Elizabeth 1 Oct 1846 1 Sep 1862 HOW Hannah 4 Jun 1784 20 Jun 1838 H/w HOW Jacob 11 Mar 1808 24 Jun 1848 HOW Jehosheba 4 Dec 1824 17 Jun 1832 HOW Joseph 25 May 1776 24 Apr 1842 HOW Samuel 27 Feb 1812 15 Dec 1831 HOW Susannah 29 Aug 1842 13 Dec 1844 D/o Ben. & Margaret How HOWARD Barbara 27 Jul 1812 11 Dec 1855 HUMMEL 8 Sep 1849 Infant son of R. His data has been used to fill in the lost details. Checked & filmed by Betty Carson, September 2004. The Eberly Family Cemetery began on a farm owned by Samuel Eberly on Brandy Lane. It is now located between the grounds of the Hampden Township Park & Pool Complex and the U. S. Navy Depot. It can be accessed from Gateway Plaza. Park in the Goodwill lot, far right back corner of the shopping mall. The sign on the cemetery says "Built at the expense of Samuel Eberly, 1854." This has also been done by the West Shore Genealogy Club from notes made by John Henry Cocklin. None of his added information is in this recording. There has been some additional genealogical information added from the book The Other Hertzlers-Hartzels, by Emanuel Hertzler, 1995. That data is in brackets with OHH as the ref. [Material in brackets was not on the stone]. Data on living people has been removed.
