We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ ____________________________________________________ Transcription of a deed from Cumberland County Deed Book 1P, pp 274-275: Deed John Alter & Eleanor his wife to Adam Mell This Indenture made this seventh day of Aprile in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred Between Adam Mell of West Pennsboro township Cumberland County of State of Pennsylvania of the one part and John Alter of Frankford Township and county aforesaid and Eleanor his wife of the other part, Whereas, in pursuance of a Warrant dated the first day of May, 1786, there was surveyed to Richard Woods a Certain Tract of Land in West Pennsboro and in now Frankford townships, containing Two hundred and twenty three acres and Eighty nine perches and the usual allowances lying on both sides of the Conodoguinet Creek joining Paul Pierce, William Galbreath and Jacob Alter, and by his money paid to the Receiver General there was a patent granted for the same under seal of the State and the hand of Peter Muhlenberg as which appears in the Recorders Office, And Whereas the said Richard Woods by Deed bearing date the twenty seventh day of Aprile 1791, since entered in Office for Recording of Deeds for Cumberland County and Recorded in Book M, Vol. 1st page 741 Did convey a Certain Moiety or part of said mentioned Tract, Bounded and described as follows: Beginning at an Ash tree on the north side of the Conodoguinet Creek at the mouth of a Run entering into said creek then up said run by lands of Jacob Alter one hundred forty two and a half perches to a Spanish Oak, thence South forty two degrees West thirteen and one fourth perches to a small white Oak, thence by land of William Galbreath South sixty four and one half degrees East one hundred and fifty eight and three fourths perches to a post, thence North two degrees West fifty perches to a post, thence by land of John and Richard Woods near the Mill dam, North thirty one degrees West one hundred and fourteen perches to a post, thence North twenty one degrees West, twenty nine and one fourth perches to a post, North sixty nine degrees East four perches to a White Oak on the bank of the creek and North thirty two degrees West eleven perches to the place of Beginning, Containing Sixty eight acres and thirty one perches and the usual allowances unto Adam Hoofstater, And Whereas the said Adam Hoofstater and Margaret his Wife Did by their Deed the eleventh day of March 1799 Convey the said described moiety to John Alter. Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John Alter and Eleanor his Wife for and in Consideration of the Sum of Six hundred and Sixty pounds to them by said Adam Mell in hand paid the receipt thereof is hereby Acknowledged, Have Granted, bargained and Sold and by these presents, do grant bargain sell & lien, Release endorse and Confirm unto the said Adam Mell and to his heirs and assigns all the above described Moiety or Tract of Sixty eight acres and thirty one perches and allowances be the same more or less Together with all and singular the Houses, barns, stables, Orchards, Meadows, fences, Ways, Woods, Waters and all and every Appurtenances and improvements belonging or in any wise Appurtaining also all the Estate Right, Title, Property, Claim or Interest of them the said John Alter and Eleanor his Wife of, in or to the same or any part thereof, To Have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with the appurtenances unto the said Adam Mell and to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Adam Mell his heirs and assigns forever, Subject to such Reservations as are due the Commonwealth. And the said John Alter and Eleanor his Wife the said Moiety or tract of Land with Appurtenances hereby granted unto the said Adam Mell and to his heirs and assigns against all persons Claiming or to claim by from or under them shall and will forever defend. In witness thereof they have hereto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. Signed, Sealed and Delivered in presence of John Alter James Laird Adam Mell Eleanor Alter Received the day of the date of within Indenture from therein named Adam Mell Six hundred and Sixty pounds, the full Consideration therein mentioned, Witness present John Alter James Laird Cumberland County fs.
